What Fits, What Is Not Allowed, and Dumpster Placement in LaGrange
A dumpster rental goes smoothly when you know three things before the truck arrives: what you are allowed to throw in, what has to go somewhere else, and where the container can sit. This page covers all three for homeowners and contractors in LaGrange and Troup County. Every hauler has its own rules, so treat this as a general guide and confirm with the provider you reach at (706) 756-8331. LaGrange Dumpster Rental is a referral service operated by Recover Profits Now. We do not own trucks or containers; the independent dumpster rental company you are connected with quotes, delivers and hauls.
What usually fits
- Furniture, rugs, toys, clothing and general household junk
- Construction and remodel debris: drywall, lumber, cabinets, trim, doors and windows
- Flooring: carpet and pad, vinyl, laminate, hardwood and tile
- Roofing: shingles, felt, flashing and decking
- Siding, fencing, decking and sheds
- Yard waste such as limbs, brush and leaves, if the hauler allows it in a mixed load
- Concrete, brick, dirt and rock, in a heavy debris container filled to the line
What is usually not allowed
- Liquid paint, stains, solvents and thinners (dried-out latex paint is sometimes accepted; ask)
- Motor oil, fuel, antifreeze and other automotive fluids
- Car and lawn mower batteries, and lithium batteries
- Propane cylinders, gas cans and anything pressurized
- Pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals and other household hazardous waste
- Asbestos-containing materials, unless arranged separately through proper abatement
- Medical waste and sharps
Items that may cost extra
- Tires
- Mattresses and box springs
- Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners that contain refrigerant
- Electronics such as TVs and computers
Some haulers refuse these items outright; others accept them for a per-item fee. Ask before you load them, and ask where to take anything that is refused. Do not assume a public drop-off site will take it; check with the City of LaGrange or Troup County about current options.
Why the rules matter
Haulers take each load to a landfill or recycling site that must follow state and federal rules. If something prohibited is found in your container, you may be charged a fee, or the hauler may leave the item behind for you to deal with. Fluids and chemicals can also leak and stain your driveway.
Choosing a placement spot
Most residential containers in LaGrange go on the driveway. A good spot has:
- Firm, level ground. Concrete, asphalt or packed gravel. Avoid grass, especially after rain; red clay soil turns soft quickly.
- A straight approach. The truck backs straight in and tilts its bed to slide the box off. Plan roughly 60 feet of length for larger containers.
- Overhead clearance. No low limbs, service lines or carport roofs above the drop spot.
- Room to load. Space to open the rear door and walk debris in.
- Clear of utilities. Stay off septic tanks, drain fields, water meters and cleanouts.
Protecting your driveway
A loaded roll-off is heavy, and its weight rests on two steel rails and small wheels. Ask the driver to set the container on boards, or lay plywood or two-by-tens yourself where the rails will sit. Newer concrete and asphalt are the most at risk. Avoid placing the container on the edge of the driveway, where the slab is weakest.
Street placement and permits in LaGrange
On your own driveway or private lot, a permit is usually not needed. Putting a container in a public street, alley or sidewalk is different, because it can block traffic and drainage. We have not found a published City of LaGrange rule specifically for dumpsters in the street, so check with the City of LaGrange before placing a dumpster on the street. Outside city limits, ask Troup County. In Hogansville, West Point or Pine Mountain, ask that city or town. Your provider may know what is typical, but it is your job as the renter to get any permission needed. If the container does sit near a road, reflectors or cones help keep it visible at night.
HOAs and neighborhoods
Many subdivisions around LaGrange and West Point Lake have homeowners associations with rules on how long a dumpster may stay, where it can sit and whether it must be screened or covered. Read your covenants or ask the association before you book. Renters should get the landlord's permission.
City trash service is not built for big jobs
The City of LaGrange collects household trash weekly in city-issued carts and picks up bulk items and yard waste on a set schedule. Its 2026 flyer limits bulk items to 2 cubic yards or 400 pounds and yard waste to 4 cubic yards or 500 pounds, and grass clippings are not collected as yard waste. Construction debris is not covered. For cart requests or questions about city pickup, the flyer lists (706) 883-2100. For anything bigger, call (706) 756-8331 to reach a local roll-off provider.
